If you’ve ever heard Neil Young’s Live at Massey Hall, you heard him say this just before he sang Needle and the Damage Done. “I got to see a lot of great musicians before they happened, before they became famous. When they were just gigging five and six sets a night it seems like. And I got to see a lot of great musicians who nobody ever got to see, for one reason or another.” The song he goes onto sing tells the story of Danny Whitten, the guitarist for Crazy Horse and a close friend of Neil’s, who died of a heroin overdose. He was one of those musicians that nobody ever got see, for one reason or another. Now, none of us are on heroin. But we’ll probably be some of those guys that nobody ever got to see, for one reason or another. We’re ok with that though.

DORENA IS A SWEDISH POST-ROCK BAND FORMED IN 2007 BY 5 GUYS SPREAD AROUND THE CITY OF GOTHENBURG. THE MEMBERS HAD PLAYED TOGETHER IN VARIOUS CONSTELLATIONS SINCE THEY WERE KIDS, PLAYING EVERYTHING FROM PUNKROCK TO SCREAMO.

BEFORE STARTING DORENA IN THE FALL OF 2007, THE LINE-UP CONSISTING OF KIM, ANDREAS, JONATAN, SAMUEL, AND A SINGER NAMED JOAKIM, WERE PLAYING MUSIC MORE SIMILAR TO SCREAMO. STRUGGLING TO GET TOGETHER FOR REHEARSALS SINCE JOAKIM WAS LIVING FAR FROM THE OTHERS, HE LEFT THE BAND. HIGHLY INFLUENCED BY POST-ROCK, THE MEMBERS WERE EAGER TO TAKE A STEP INTO THE GENRE, AND LEAVE THE SCREAMO BEHIND. KIM QUIT PLAYING BASS, AND TOOK OVER THE GUITAR AND VOCALS INSTEAD. SIMON JOINED THE BAND AS THE NEW BASS-PLAYER, AND THE MUSIC STARTED COMING TO LIFE.

A band from Pennsylvania, Deadhorse is a fully instrumental Post-Rock band that blends many different genres within their work to make a fairly intriguing sound. Including many classical segments, they make a very easy listening album that flows very well and unlocks some great emotion on the listen. With a playtime of nearly 50 mins. each song is significant in length and provides it’s own personality in the greater scheme of the album. Thoughtful melodies and riffs within the album show that this band has a proper understanding of what is asked of in this type of genre and keeps it interesting all the way through. The highlights come at the end of the album with the final there tracks that put a great caper of a very impressive full-band debut full length.

Telegraph Cabin is a home recording project of a guy obsessed by landscapes and weird sounds. It all started in 2009, when he plugged his guitar into a pedal and began turning pictures into songs.
Backward Flight contains four songs written and recorded between 2009 and early 2010. Moving from ambient to cinematic music and post-rock, every track is a blurry old picture, a recognizable voice, an episode of our life. Every song is a clumsy attempt to make you feel a little better.
